Team Asia Dominates Toronto Youth Hockey Scene

Don Mills Flyers U-16 Win GTHL Championship, Prepare for OHL Cup with Strong East Asian Talent
The Don Mills Flyers Under-16 hockey team has established itself as one of the top youth hockey teams in Ontario. Ranked No. 1 in the province for much of the season, the Flyers clinched the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL) title on Tuesday night. As they set their sights on the OHL Cup, the team is in top form.
One unique aspect of this championship-winning squad is its strong East Asian presence, with seven players—nearly half the roster—of East Asian descent. Players like Tommy Kut, Andy Huang, and Lincoln Cumming originally started their hockey journeys in China before moving to Canada to compete at an elite level.
With hockey’s growing popularity in Asia, particularly in China, many talented young players are making their way to top youth leagues like the GTHL. The Flyers’ East Asian players have demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication, and many are expected to advance to the OHL next season, continuing their journey toward the NHL.
This rising wave of Asian hockey talent showcases the sport’s global reach and growing diversity, making the Don Mills Flyers a team to watch in the OHL Cup and beyond.
